Karate Dancer made me do it

Brace yourselves because you are used to reading just 4 lines from me and this one is long. (But I think details are fun!)

This blog came to life in a very hmm organic way, you may say.

Many of you don’t know that Sergio, the clicker, has been in music bands since he was in high school. He first started playing drums (when he had more hair than beard), and then he took the guitar and the microphone and had an awesome band (I/DIDN’T/SEE/THE/CAR) with some friends. When he came to Ecuador he had to leave the band and his guitar behind. (You can’t imagine how sad the farewell concerts were.) He could not stop making music so he decided to create a new band. The name: Karate Dancer. (If I start writting about why he picked this name you would get tired of reading and never learn why this blog started so I’ll leave that story for anyone who asks. (; )

From the beginning of our relationship, Sergio and I have done a lot of small and big projects together, so when he was making all these songs for this new band he asked me to sing some parts, and also help with some lyrics. I said yes, of course, because one of my biggest passions, if not the greatest, is music. (And also because, poor guy, I was the only resource he had at hand at that time.)

After some months of work Sergio had his songs but could not even think about showing them to the world without a music video.

So we started the production process. It involved going to different locations and me, wearing nothing but an oversized sweater in most of the shootings. (Yes, Cotopaxi is much colder when you are in tights.) And then one day, when I was showing him some things I could wear for the video we started talking about how I love fashion, and how he would love to start a new photography project. And so TARÁN! There and then we came up with the concept for the blog: mixing photography and a short story to present clothes in a different way. We both studied advertising so we knew having a strong concept was very important for the project to work over time. We also knew it had to be all about having fun and combining what each of us loves. (By the way, Sergio came up with the name. I love it!)

TEXTO EN ESPAÑOL
Prepárense porque se han acostumbrado a leer solo 4 líneas mías y este va a ser largo. (Pero para mi los detalles son divertidos!)

Este blog cobró vida de una manera jmmm orgánica, se podría decir.
Muchos de ustedes no saben que Sergio, el clicker, ha estado en bandas de música desde que estaba en la secundaria. Primero empezó tocando la batería (Cuando tenía más pelo que barba.), y luego tomó la guitarra y el micrófono y tenía una genial banda (I DIDN’T SEE THE CAR) con unos amigos. Cuando vino a Ecuador tuvo que dejar la banda y su guitarra. (No se pueden imaginar lo tristes que fueron los conciertos de despedida). No podía dejar de hacer música así que decidió crear una nueva banda. El nombre: Karate Dancer. (Si comienzo a contar el porqué del nombre seguro se cansan de leer y nunca se enterarán de por qué empezó el blog así que esa historia la dejo para cualquiera que pregunte. (; )
Desde que estamos juntos, Sergio y yo hemos hecho pequeños y grandes proyectos, así que cuando él estaba creando las canciones para esta nueva banda me pidió que cante algunas partes y que ayude con algunas letras. Yo dije sí, por supuesto, porque una de mis grandes pasiones, sino la más grande, es la música. (Y también porque, pobre chico, yo era el único recurso que tenía a la mano en ese momento.)
Luego de muchos meses de trabajo Sergio tenía sus canciones pero no podía ni pensar en sacarlas sin tener un videoclip.
Así que empezamos la producción. Requirió de diferentes locaciones y de que yo use nada más que un saco grande en casi todos los shootings. (Sí, el Cotopaxi es mucho más frío cuando solo se llevan mallas.) Y un día, cuando le estaba mostrando a Sergio algunas cosas que podía ponerme para el video, empezamos a hablar sobre lo mucho que me gusta la moda y sobre las ganas que él tenía de empezar un nuevo proyecto fotográfico. Y TARÁN! En ese mismo instante creamos el concepto para el blog: mezclar fotografía con historias cortas para presentar la ropa de una forma diferente. Los dos estudiamos publicidad así que sabíamos que era muy importante tener un concepto fuerte para que funcione todo con el paso del tiempo. También sabíamos que tenía que tratarse de divertirnos y de combinar las cosas que ambos amamos. (Por si acaso, a Sergio se le ocurrió el nombre. Me encanta!)

(Un dato rápido: Para el video fuimos a pedir permiso al CAC para poder grabar ahí y aprovechamos y tomamos fotos para el blog también, (Darn Teleportation – She is so heavy) con ropa elegida para el video.)
